Grounding is an important part of home electrical safety. It helps reduce electric shock risk when an appliance fails and supports proper operation of protective devices.
Metal-bodied appliances such as water heaters, washing machines, refrigerators, and ovens can become dangerous if internal insulation fails. Proper grounding reduces that risk.
A grounding contact in a socket does not prove the grounding works. An electrician measures the socket, checks the protective conductor, and inspects panel connections.
If you feel current on an appliance body, have old sockets, an unclear panel, or plan to connect a high-power appliance, professional grounding diagnostics are recommended.
