Heating around an electricity meter may indicate a loose contact, overload, damaged terminal or undersized incoming cable. Do not open sealed meter parts or touch incoming conductors yourself.
Burning smell, discoloration, crackling, melted insulation and unstable voltage require urgent inspection.
An electrician checks the post-meter cable, main breaker and panel. Faults before the meter or inside sealed sections must be reported to the electricity provider.
